The U.S. housing industry is at a critical juncture, with over 5.5 million homes needed to close the current gap in affordable housing. NextHouse addresses this challenge by reimagining the modular housing industry through advanced manufacturing, innovative design, and equitable access. By integrating robotics, AI, and sustainable materials, NextHouse aims to create high-quality, affordable housing that is adaptable to diverse community needs and resilient to economic pressures.

Our vision extends beyond housing units; we’re building an ecosystem that unites industry leaders, research institutions, and policymakers. By leveraging the unique strengths of Indiana and Michigan, NextHouse will serve as a national model for addressing housing affordability while promoting job creation and workforce development. The project envisions a future where housing is not only accessible but also a driver of regional and societal transformation.

Indiana-Michigan Region: A Unique Opportunity

  • Within this region, there is a current shortage of 311,000 affordable homes
  • 2023 housing starts totaled only 20,000 – existing modes of construction can’t meet demand.
  • Market forces call for disruptive change in the mode, cost and precision of housing production.
  • Michigan and Indiana are two of the nation’s leading states for advanced manufacturing, automation and logistics. These capacities are critical to next generation housing
  • Beyond local demand, the Great Lakes region is growing – both the US and next door in Canada. Global export markets are also available.
